Is Insurance part of my membership? Only professional & general liability insurance is part of your membership. Any other forms of insurance such as property, theft, health, dental or disability is not included in your membership.
When is my membership and insurance active?
Instantly! As soon as your application and payment is recieved your membership and insurance is active. Applications take less then 10 minutes!
How long does it take to get my confirmation of insurance/membership?
Confirmation is sent instantly to your email and you will be able to access your account information and print your certificate and/or policy directly from your online account.

I am a Member and need to add a additonal insured now what do I do?
Login to your account center and click "edit policy" then add additional insured.

Why cant I just get insurance through a agent/insurance company?
Since this is a specialized plan for our specific members / groups you will find
this plan is not offered individually through a agent/insurance company.
What types of trades do the insurance programs cover?
We cover over two hundred trades and have placed them in 8 professional groups.

I provide more then one trade/service. Would one policy cover them all?
Yes, the policy covers ALL trades under one policy.
What are the requirements for applying for membership with insurance?
For the membership with insurance coverage to be in effect you must be a U.S. resident and abide by all state and local laws pertaining to your trades/service.
Are there limitations regarding the location of services provided? (for example, in your own home
or a clients home, internationally)?
You are only covered in the United States. In the U.S. the coverage follows you wherever you are providing or teaching your trade/service as long as you obey the state and local laws.
Can I add my spouse or employees to my policy?
No, this is an individual policy / membership and each individual must have his or her own policy / membership.
Can I add and insure my business, place of employment or landlord?
Yes, this is an individual policy / membership which must be in an individual’s name. However, if you want your business, place of employment or landlord covered you may add it as an additional insured.
I am a teacher. Does the policy specify limitations on the number of students in the class? No, there is no limitation on the number of students in your class.
I am a teacher / instructor; does it cover my claims against me after my class?
No, Instructors, you are covered for professional liability while you are demonstrating some hands on technique during class. You would have to be doing hands-on. If you taught some technique and the student went out and did it improperly to someone else came back to blame the instructor, that would not be covered. The general liability covers if a student gets hurt on the premises of the class ('trip and fall").
I am a student can I still be covered?
Yes, Students my apply for student membership. To be covered you must be currently attending a trade school and only able to work at the school or on family/friends without charge. Coverage limits are the same and there is no deductible.
Does the insurance w/membership cover the loss of my equipment or property?
No, this plan is primarily for professional and general (slip and fall / malpractice ).
However, once a member you are welcome to contact our agent and discuss your equipment and property insurance coverage needs and purchase a separate plan.
What does this policy not cover?
This policy does not cover you for charges of sexual harassment or transmission of HIV or a STD. This policy does not include property (building) insurance, workmen’s compensation or any type of coverage for your employees/staff. It does not cover invasive practices i.e. ear candling, acupuncture, tanning, laser hair removal or bodywrapes or permanent makeup/tattooing. It also does not cover nutrition or herbal counseling.
Can I cancel my policy and get a refund?
Once an application has been accepted we are unable to provide a refund. All fees paid to Alternative Balance in relation to your application are non-refundable” unless application is refused by Alternative Balance.
