What is an additional insured (AI)?
An additional insured (AI) is reserved for a business name or landlord you want listed on the policy. It is not for other professional providers and/or co-workers.
When you add a landlord or business name to your policy as an Additional Insured, you are extending your policy coverages to protect the additional insured from a lawsuit that was caused by your negligence.
In other words, if someone slipped in your space of service and broke their arm, the injured person would sue you and the additional insured. Since the landlord or business name is added as an Additional Insured your insurance policy would protect both you and them in the suit.
Can I add my spouse/ family member/ or co-worker on my policy?
No, the policy is only in your name (as the professional). You can only add a business name or landlord.
What if I work under a name other than my own?
If you work under a business name you can add this as an additional insured. However it does not cover all those who work in your business. It only protect the "name" of the business if it is listed specifically in a claim.
I need to remove a AI from my account. What do I do?
Please contact us if you need to edit/remove a AI that is currently in your account. You can ONLY "add" a AI currently in your account center.
Can I change an AI over the phone?
We recommend trying to do your AI in your account center (see below) first as you will have instant access to the updated certificate in your account after you make the additions. If you have problems online with the AI or have other concerns we welcome your call.
Please note AI's done over the phone may take up to 24 business hrs to complete the process.
What if I have a custom AI I cannot do online? If you have specific or unique verbage required by an additional insured we recommend you email us directly this information and we will manually issue the updated certificate and/or accord. Email us at AlternativeBalance@gmail.com subject: AI Custom
Most custom certificates are done within 24hrs during regular business hours.

To add an additional insured: Login to your account center to edit your policy and "add a additional insured"
