In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, nail technology, esthetics or make-up artistry in the state of Maryland, students must complete the requirements listed below. Please contact the Maryland Board of Cosmetology for more information.
Requirements COSMETOLOGIST: Applicant must submit proof of completion of 1500 hours of training in a cosmetology school or 24 months as a registered apprentice in a licensed beauty salon. ESTHETICIAN: Applicant must submit proof of completion of 600 hours of training in a cosmetology school or 12 months as a registered apprentice in a licensed beauty salon. NAIL TECHNICIAN: Applicant must submit proof of completion of at least 250 hours of training in a cosmetology school or 8 months as a registered apprentice in a licensed beauty salon. MAKEUP ARTIST: Applicant must submit proof of having successfully completed a course or program in makeup artist services approved by the Board. SENIOR COSMETOLOGIST: Must submit proof of working for 24 months as a licensed cosmetologist in a licensed cosmetology salon or barber shop and qualify by examination given by the Board.
